THE LOOKING GLASS

Photography: Looks of Innocence

The good thing about a job that requires a lot of fieldwork is that it brings you to different places and into the midst of people, places and people you might have tend to ignore in ordinary circumstances. In the places that I went to, mostly rural areas, images of children and the innocence that is only theirs captured my heart. I found those images so hard to let go of. I tried to preserve the memory of that innocence so that others could also take a look at them.

Rice farming is very much a part of this boy’s life.

A young girl by the window…watching the day go by.

This was taken in Sitio Panoypoy, Oquendo District, Calbayog City (in Samar). We were shooting a video documentary of an outstanding farmer. We went around to get the feel of the place and its people and children were trailing behind us. So, I called them up and snapped a few pictures.

I agree with you that doing fieldwork is really a rich experience. We see the real world, the true people and the mystery of nature and man. Thanks for sharing these pictures. Let us discover more as we do fielwork each day.

Yeah. It’s the one thing I love about this job, ‘gie. Am just too sad last year’s field evaluation might be my last in VSU. But am looking forward to more of it in the future as am sure there’ll be more…am also happy you get this kind of high. You had more fieldwork than I had and I know you learned a lot from it. I hope you will never get tired of it.
